GardenProgram: About the Garden Program

Garden Education

Wellspring teaches organic gardening. Anyone interested in learning how to grow their own food in harmony with nature is welcome. Interns live at the farm from early April to late October, to learn hands-on all the aspects of a full growing season. Summer interns, worker shares and volunteers are welcome to gain practical experience while working beside our garden team. Applications for internships begin each fall for the following season and are open ‘til March.

HOME GARDENING COURSE - With the high cost of food and fuel, here is an opportunity for you to create your own edible backyard - gardens where you live. Wellspring will help you. The course starts in March and runs through Sept. It’s an opportunity for folks who want to raise their own food to learn on Wellspring’s raised beds. Then we will mentor you with your own garden. Classes will cover composting, soil building, seed selection, bio-intensive planting methods, natural pest control, marketing, food preservation and many more topics, carrying you and your garden through a Wisconsin growing season. Experience the joy of harvesting your own homegrown food.

Classes are limited. Registration will be taken on a first come basis. Email Wellspring if you are interested - wellspringcsa@gmail.com. We will send you the Home Gardening brochure. There is an Orientation session on Sunday, March 14th at 2:pm at Wellspring. See the Garden course brochure (.pdf, 2.2Mb), and download the Garden course signup sheet (.pdf, 89Kb)

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA)

CSA is a partnership between a farm and members from the local community. Members provide financial support to the farm by purchasing a produce share at the beginning of the growing season. In return, the farm provides fresh, locally-grown products throughout the year. Members of the farm have the satisfaction of knowing where their food comes from and the opportunity to enjoy delicious produce that is grown with great care. Wellspring was a pioneer of the CSA movement in Wisconsin, becoming a CSA in 1988.
