1/27/19: Beekeeping 101 with April Yuds
@ Wellspring Organic Farm and Retreat Center
4382 Hickory Rd West Bend WI 53090
Spend a chilly Sunday learning about backyard beekeeping, straight from a local beekeeper! The more we learn about the benefits of local organic honey, the more we know how much honey bees are struggling to survive right now. We know it will mean disastrous effects on our food system and pollination if we don't do something about it. Along with banning pesticides and herbicides that are known bee toxins, supporting more small-scale local organic farms, and educating ourselves, one very important part of supporting the honey bee population is, of course, small scale or backyard beekeeping!
This class will dive into the basics of beginner beekeeping and is intended for those with 0-2 years of experience.
We will introduce many important topics such as:
-equipment and supplies
-installing a bee package
-what to look for in your hive
-diseases to know about
The goal of this class is to have fun while we get participants familiar with basic vocabulary and introduce important topics to consider. Whether you decide to start your first hive or support the bees in other ways, you will leave knowing more about these amazing creatures, how we depend on them, and how they depend on us.
