2/9/19: The Home Worm Farm: Vermicomposting 101
@ Wellspring Organic Farm and Retreat Center
4382 Hickory Road
West Bend, WI 53090
Get started worm farming in your own home with this hands-on crash course in vermicomposting! This simple, low maintenance indoor composting system allows you to turn your kitchen waste into high-quality compost. Great for folks without reliable access to a backyard, gardeners, urban farmers, and more! Plus, the kids will love this mini ecosystem. First, we will look at a presentation on red wiggler worms and what they need to thrive. Then, we will assemble worm bins for the class participants to take home, along with printed resources from class. Starting a DIY home wormery has never been so easy!
Instructor and Education Director of Wellspring, Roxanne Hanna, has been raising and composting with worms for 5 years, and currently manages 3 large worm bins. As a lazy worm farmer, she has learned through research and trial and error the best and easiest practices for maintaining a healthy and productive worm colony. She is passionate about sharing skills to help build a resilient and accessible food system based on sustainable nutrient cycling, locally grown goodness, and community engagement in food production, mutual aid, and Earth stewardship.
