2/17/19: Medicine of the Grandmothers: Stocks and Broths
@ Wellspring Organic Farm and Retreat Center
4382 Hickory Rd
West Bend, WI 53090
Stocks and broths are quintessential comfort food. In addition to being comforting, they are nutrient dense, with a reputation as a cure-all for digestive disorders, joint discomfort, allergies, and more. They are the medicine that our mothers and grandmothers give us when we do not feel well.
Today, we know that bone broths contain minerals and amino acids. They are also high in gelatin, which is one of the aspects that is healing to the digestive system. Nutrients in vegetables and herbs also offer flavor and additional nutrition. This class will provide an opportunity for participants to explore approaches to making bone broth, vegetable stock and adding herbs to both for flavor and added nutrition.
Everyone will leave with recipes and a broth/stock that we assemble as part of the class.. Please bring a pot or crock that will hold 2-3 gallons of liquid and be prepared to go home and finish your stock/broth. If you just want to learn and not bring a pot, that if fine too. We will end the class by sampling broths and soup that has been previously prepared.
*Please note, we will be using the highest quality of organic, pastured bones for this workshop and promote the practice of supporting local small farmers who use these practices for the good of the animals, the planet, and people.
