Volunteer Opportunities! Since its beginning in 1982, Wellspring projects have been done mainly by volunteers. Not until 2004 did Wellspring hire full time staff for the first time. Mary Ann Ihm, the founder has worked full time for Wellspring but as a volunteer for the first 10 years. In 1992 she was paid a small stipend for administrative duties. She still volunteers her time with the garden and guest programs. Garden Volunteers can help in the garden from April through October. There is weeding, planting and harvesting to do. There are tasks for all kinds of folks, sit-down jobs and bending-over jobs. We prefer young people to be at least 12 years old. If accompanied by an adult, 8-11 year olds can be helpful, too. Office Volunteers are needed at the computer doing data entry or desk top publishing. Some projects can even be done at home. Making phone calls once or twice a year is a short term task - about 2 hours total. Events We can always use volunteers at our two festivals, long before the event. Earth Day is the 4th Saturday of April each year; the Fall Festival is the last Sunday of September each year. We can use stringers to post flyers and posters for special events as well as help plan the events. Committees Our Board of Directors are all volunteers. They each serve on a committee. We are always looking for folks to serve on either the Program or Finance Committee which meets 6 times a year at most. If interested in helping, please give a call (262) 675-6755. Many of our volunteers come from the membership, garden shareholders or contacts through the Volunteer Center of Washington County. The latter can be reached at (262) 338-8256.
Wisconsin ranks 13th in the nation with the highest percentage of people
who volunteer. In 2003 37.2% of Wisconsin's population volunteered
during the year. There are many unseen
rewards that come with volunteering one's time and talent. |
